The non-conventional media advertising process - messaging services
02/19/2008
Phenomenal rise and immense popularity of mobile technology has promoted the marketers to take advantage of the rise in the Short Message Service or text message service that are ordinarily called SMS. The system is gradually outdoing the traditional media ads like the print media advertising and other such processes.
SMS messaging services are used with short codes provided by the carrier. There are various such mobile messaging processes now available besides the main system. The other ones are Bluetooth, infrared and Multimedia Messaging Services. These methods are not only threatening the print but also the electronic media based advertising process like the Television advertising. You will be astonished to know that during 2007 there was $50 million worth of SMS marketing alone in United States.
Like all other media advertising processes, you have to clearly understand the requirements of the customers and you will also have to plan out how you are going to fulfill them. However everything said and done mobile has a huge potential to be used as online advertising media.
One drawback is that unlike mobile billboards or other electronic and print media the providers are only the mobile operators. Mobile provides the advertisers an opportunity to reach a mass individually which no other method of media advertising can provide. There is a personal touch to all this that is sadly lacking is mass appeals made by various organizations using other media.
